Do you offer direct billing for physiotherapy or sports therapy services?
We currently do not offer direct billing for insurance claims. To keep things simple and efficient, all payments are securely processed via credit card through our online Jane App system. Your card stays on file for convenience, and you’ll receive an invoice after each appointment to submit directly to your insurance provider.
What types of claims do you accept?
Unfortunately, we do not accept WCB, MVA, or AHS claims. To ensure quality care for our patients and fair compensation for our therapists, we have opted to operate strictly under a private model. However, we do provide private post-surgical care for those seeking a comprehensive post-surgical recovery plan.
Do I have to be an athlete to come to The Lab?
Absolutely not. While we work with elite and youth athletes, we also support active adults, older adults, and anyone who wants to stay mobile and pain-free. If you’ve experienced an activity-related joint injury, chronic pain, or just want to stay in the game, our restorative sports therapy and active sports therapy in Calgary are built for you.
What’s the Difference Between Physiotherapy and Athletic Therapy?
At The Lab, both physiotherapy and athletic therapy support our performance rehab model, but they serve slightly different roles.
Physiotherapy (Physio)
Medically regulated, with a broader scope of care.
Treats sports injuries, chronic pain, post-surgical needs, and neurological or respiratory conditions.
Involves formal diagnosis, manual therapy, exercise, and modalities like dry needling.
Requires a Master’s degree and provincial registration (e.g., Alberta College of Physiotherapists).
Athletic Therapy (AT)
Specializes in musculoskeletal rehab—bones, joints, muscles, and soft tissue.
Focused on athletes and active individuals recovering from orthopedic injuries.
Includes on-field care, taping, bracing, and return-to-play rehab.
Certified through the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CAT(C)).
Depending on your injury and goals, your plan may include one or both disciplines.
